Great News!  On Tues. Mar. 13th, HF#2433 has passed the House by a 96:1 bipartisan effort!!  It has been forwarded to the Senate- we will keep you posted. Click here to read the bill- HF 2433 which requires state boards (including the Iowa Board of Nursing), commissions, and multi-member agencies to follow Robert's Rules of Order while conducting their meetings. We believe that this will promote uniform fairness and transparency to the meeting process. The bill also further defines what is required for self reporting purposes which provides clarity. If we come together and take action- we can make a real difference!!!

Recent Activity:
A Big Thank You to the Nurses from around the state who gathered to lobby at the Capital on Feb.21. They succeeded in securing a Senate subcommittee meeting in which we gave testimony on the need for our bills, SF #2067 and HF #2193.
It was a very exciting day, it started with meeting our lobbyist, learning how to citizen lobby for our bills, and then setting out to make a difference for nurses and the patients we care for.  It was a very successful day!
The nurses attempted to talk with all the legislators in both the Senate and the House that would be capable of moving our bills forward in the process They talked with Sen. Jochum(D), Sen.Hatch (D), and sent a message to Sen.Boettger(R) re: SF# 2067.  They also sent messages and tried to meet with Rep. Massie(R), Rep. Iverson(R), and Rep. Schulte(R) re: HF#2193 but were unable to meet with them. The nurses were able to meet and thank some of the sponsors of the bills, and even got there pictures taken a few times
.
And they definately had something to smile about-  our nurses succeeded in securing a subcommittee meeting and giving testimony on SF 2067!!!!
On Feb. 22nd, we met with Senator Jochum(D) and Senator Hatch(D) and gave testimony on the need for a Nurse staffing bill. Other interested parties were present and spoke either in favor or in opposition to the bill. The Senators were supportive, listened carefully, asked questions and took lots of notes. They were very supportive of the nurses and told us that we have started a very important conversation as we advocate for patients and our profession. They will be gathering data and the conversation will be continued next year as they need more time to research and study it.
THE CONVERSATION HAS BEGUN FOR JUSTICE FOR PATIENTS AND THE   NURSES WHO CARE FOR THEM !
